Volunteering Opportunities/Activities:
- Shelter Helper: Helping shelter staff with the cleaning of cages and with feeding times. Morning shifts: 8am – 11:30am (Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri, Sat) 9:30am – 12pm (Sun and Public Holidays). Afternoon shifts: 12:30pm – 3pm (Everyday) Messiness factor (5 being most messy): 5
- Dog walker: Helping to walk the shelter dogs. Timing: 8am – 10:30am, every weekday morning. Messiness factor (5 being most messy): 3
- Shelter Reception: Front line role manning the shelter office, answering queries from the public in person and by phone. Morning shifts: 10am – 1pm Afternoon shifts: 1pm – 4pm. Messiness factor (5 being most messy): 1
- Merchandise sales: Manning our merchandise stalls at various weekly sales events. Shift times vary depending on the event. Messiness factor (5 being most messy): 2
- Animal Ambassador: Stationed at our external events to answer pet care, adoption and SPCA-related queries. Timing: Varies according to the event. Messiness factor (5 being most messy): 2
- Adoption Counsellor: Prerequisite: Prior attachment (at least 2 months) as Shelter Helper in SPCA. Must be at least 21 years old and have experience with animals, preferably an experienced pet owner. Help shelter staff to handle adoption procedures and advise on suitability of animals for potential adopters. Timing: Varied. Messiness factor (5 being most messy): 4
- Animal Fosterer: Must be at least 18 years old and have experience with animals, preferably an experienced pet owner. If you are between 18 and 21 years old, a parent/guardian's consent is required. Help us save lives by providing individual attention and accommodation for animals too young to be kept in a shelter (under 2 months) or animals who need specialized care (medical treatment or behavioural rehabilitation). Timing: Varied (from home). Messiness factor (5 being most messy): 5
- Mailouts: Preparing envelopes for mass mailouts, applying labels and inserting documents. Timing: Ad-hoc.
- Merchandise stock-room: Preparing merchandise for weekly sales events in our merchandise stockroom. Timing: Ad-hoc
- School sales: Manning our merchandise stalls at schools around the island. Timing: Varies according to the event.
