Volunteering Opportunities/Activities:
- CPR 3A Facilitators (assist Heart Safe team in enrichment programmes in different schools to monitor students during training, watch out for common mistakes and guide them to learn proper way of performing CPR). Volunteers have to be at least 17 years old, physically fit, effectively bilingual and willing to undergo a one-time CPR training (1.5 hrs) at SHF office.
- Health Mapping Exercise Adult Volunteers (Introduce teams and explain purpose of visit to residents in appropriate dialect or mother tongue, act as extra eyes and ears to look out for potential danger, manage situations that students are unable to handle, act as translators when necessary. Volunteer has to be able to converse in dialects, have passion for the elderly, love working with students and be physically able to climb stairs or walk the blocks for up to 4 hrs.
- Event volunteers ( to man SHF booths, help in crowd control, pack and distribute goodie bags, and other duties based on the type of events)
- Web design volunteers (assist with online publicity campaigns, evaluate and enhance online communications). Volunteers should be competent in adobe photoshop, creative media design, multimedia or equivalent.
- Office Admin Support volunteer (sort donations, letter shopping-folding letters/pasting stamps, pack goodie bags, media tracking, data entry, make telephone calls, clean blood pressure machines/CPR manikins, other duties at SHF office as required)
- Volunteer translators (to translate materials from English to Chinese, malay or tamil and vice versa; to proofread translated materials). Volunteers have to be effectively bilingual in English as well as the language that they will be doing the translation for.
- Media story volunteers (to share personal experience with heart disease-either as patient, family member or close friend-through interviews for newspaper, magazines, radio, television and other types of media; to be photographed or filmed to add human touch to story if required)
- Volunteer videographers (film events for SHF’s marketing communications purposes). Volunteers should be competent, preferably professional in this area.
- Volunteer photographers (take photographs at events for SHF’s marketing communications purposes). Volunteers should be competent, preferably professional in this area.
- Smoking cessation counselors (provide smoking cessation services, counsel clients on a one-to-one basis, experience in group counselling would be of added value, achieve good rapport with the client-with respect to the service provided, provide a personal approach tailored to the stage of behavior change of the client objectives include: working through pros and cons of smoking with the client, equip client with useful life skills to aid smoking cessation, help client to progress from his/her current stage of behaviour to the next). Volunteers are required to be interviewed by the manager of Heart Wellness Centre-Mr Tay Hung Yong
- Volunteer Leader (in-charge of the volunteers for the event, opportunity to run an event with the Project Owner, attend event-based meetings, work hand-in-hand with the Volunteer Coordinator). Volunteers have to commit for the whole event period usually about 3-6 months to attend meetings and event set-up. Training is also required.
