Vision: Promote the needs, interests and aspirations of the visually impaired.
Objectives:
- To serve as an Association for the visually handicapped
- To promote the welfare of the visually handicapped in the Republic of Singapore
- To facilitate and encourage greater participation of the visually handicapped in the administration of their affairs and activities and in the management of the Association
- To work towards the abolition of architectural, attitudinal, social, cultural, educational, employment and any other barriers that prevent the total integration and equal treatment of the visually handicapped in the community
- To encourage eye-care and safety and research in the prevention and cure of blindness and related diseases
- To do any or all such other things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objects and shall include the appeal for funds in aid of the visually handicapped
Volunteering Opportunities/Acitivities:
- Be a volunteer van driver – for special events and outings (minimum 2 years driving experience required.)
- Provide Tuition language, computer skills, Primary or Secondary level (minimum 3-6 months commitment)
- Assist in activities for the elderly. Ability to speak Mandarin or dialect preferred (Every Monday morning 9am to 2pm)
- Arts & Crafts teaching or assisting in classes (Every Monday 10am to 4pm)
- Computer data entry / proof reading (to transcribe printed text into Braille for our visually handicapped students)
- Ad hoc Projects ie. Provide transport/accompany less mobile clients for SAVH activities/medical appointments (may take place during working hours), Recreational Activities (indoor and outdoor), Fund raising, Charity Events, Administrative Support
- Tour guide to visually impaired foreign visitors
